Description:
After the death of Mao's mother, who was called the "Fairy of Cuisine", Mao must strive to become a legendary chef himself, in order to take the title as head chef at his mother's restaurant. To do this, he must travel across China to learn the many ways of cooking. During his journey, he meets great friends and also fierce rivals.

Chūka Ichiban! (中華一番!, lit. Chinese Food Number One!) is a manga created by Ogawa Etsushi.
From 1995-1997 it was published as Chūka Ichiban!. However, during the middle of its serialization, the character '真' was added, so from 1997 to 1999, it was serialized as Shin Chūka Ichiban! (真・中華一番!, Truth - China's Number One!).

In 1997, Chūka Ichiban! was adapted into an anime series directed by Anno Masami of the same name. In some countries, the anime adaptation was called Cooking Master Boy.

@thegreatsynthesiser Well then, I just want to say thank you for the hardwork 😁 I just can't believe after all this year, the series finally got a new story for the manga, and they even finally adapted this one into an Anime. What a good year to be a Cooking Master boy fan 😄

now if only there's anyone can do the same for the Tekken Chinmi series....

@unbuliebubble We’ll see how it goes - for now our target is to finish the whole of Shin Chuuka Ichiban! (which still has almost 7 volumes left to go...)

Oh shit, I didn't realize that there's a new story in this manga series.
If any ABAJ Scans guy reading this comment, are you guys gonna translate the newest series too ?

First season did mention the dark chef society so its not like the author completely made up some magical stuff for the sequel so many years later.

Also have you seen how difficult it is for cooking mangas to come up with a decent plot? While he could have done it without the whole magical stuff (just look at the japanse isekai oda chef manga whos a modern chef back during the sengoku era), its fine as long as the author doesn't incorporate magical cheat skills that are obviously impossible in cooking when talking about traditional dishes.

Anyways its still better than 90% of the 40 or so cooking isekai mangas that have sprung up with the 2000 isekai mangas over the last 2 years.

1st season, Mao going on a journey to learn cooking technique, discovering new ingredient, introducing classic Chinese food to reader.
2nd season, Mao going on a journey to fight against underground chef organization who try to conquer the world with food using magical cooking utensil.

Yep... I'm done with this series

@harimaubermatabiru Not that I know of, I don't think it'll get licensed if it doesn't get popular enough

@Pika

Yeah, chuuka ichiban kiwami, it seems like it's already on chapter 39

is it true there's a shin chuuka ichiban sequel?

The 1st season at least is still within the realm of reality with Mao studying various skills and cooking dishes. They introduced a lot of new and rare Chinese recipes. Some are invented but still acceptable.

The 2nd season, however, is exhausted of idea. Most of the dishes and cooking showing are to create Drama to satisfy the sense of Justice of Shounen fans than actual cooking wisdom and knowledge.

At least, that's how i feel. I could be wrong though. Either way the plot and the characters are still somewhat in the range of 6 to 8/10. You may be able to derive enjoyment from it.
