@py0sun new info, and it seems like something the author decided at the last moment, when the Dad first meets Zen he was more worried about Ryoko having encountered Rice and what he may have told her about her Mom and the Cow, and when Rice left he was talking about the relationship of Zen and Ryoko's mom.

No one cared about the dad, and the dad only worried about Ryoko's feeling, if it had been that Ryoko's mom was the researcher it would have made sense, but she was just a cop.

Added to that none of the interactions between Zen and the dad point to him knowing about Zen or about Zen being the germ, not even once we get a hint about it, and he never gets even a inner monologue about it.
