Ch. 35 - A Morning of Beginnings

I understand why characters like the king need to be there, but sometimes it's tiring.

Whew, so much people arguing about food down here
this manga is about Mira, who enjoys this new world with a tourist-like feeling whenever she comes to a new place, with occasional ass-kicking
emphasis on the "tourist-like"
those of you who don't like what happens in chapter 30, I'm sorry to say there will be more of it later down the road

Last panel of page 22 shows how the copy page is used. How would you read a mirrored copy comfortably?

ugh, the japanese food thing... That's one of the more annoying isekai tropes and that says something
Avatar
Ah, I too love it when half the pages are food instead of plot.

That vehicle is still so out of place, also, the people working on the magitech is pretty useless huh.... Suspension should be easy to make.

yeah it's used for nostalgia of his real life foods but I can see why 8 pages of food can be annoying

I refuted every single one of your arguments, sentence by sentence in fact, which was tiring. You're the one who didn't even bother trying to push your point of view anymore and resorted to insults. This is playground bullying phenomenon. You have no more things to say, but you don't want to be proven wrong, so you engaged in personal attacks to make you feel good about yourself. The next step usually involves someone getting a punch to the face by the person who feel the most anger, but this is the internet, so neither of us will get punched in the face. What does happen is shit gets thrown all around the place.

When you personally attack someone, prepare to be personally attacked too. You fail to understand this basic unspoken rule of communication. When you offend someone, people take offense. And they will return it to you manyfold. Awesome, right? This should be your parents teaching you, not me.

Your logic is fundamentally flawed. Your arguments have been an argument of a frog in a well. You said it is insulting for the Japanese audience to read about manga that talks about food. Well guess what. The Japanese love food, they Japanese love talking about food, the Japanese love describing the taste of food. Have you never watched a youtube video and feel hungry from watching the person on screen eating?

Just because you drink mush masqueraded as food, doesn't mean everyone love mush. We enjoy our food. Eating food is a duty, not just to live. That's why you don't see Soylent being made in Japan.

Oh and good LN? Pray tell, what would you call 'good' LN? What would you call 'good' food? How does your flawed logic works? I seriously don't know. You pass off what runs in your head as 'everyone's logic'. Now that is really insulting. I don't want to think like you, that would be a major downgrade.

Nearly 8 pages devoted to food... I didnt mind the 2-3 pages in previous chapters about food, but this is kind of utter waste of page space when it reaches this level when it is a non-food focused manga/story.

Who the hell is letting the mangaka waste space and pacing like this?

@cezyou: If you aren't reading it already, I'd recommend Cooking with Wild Game, particularly the light novel since the manga doesn't go into as much detail on the cooking process and mentality, but it has fantasy ingredients and a Japanese chef who has to try to figure out how to make them work.

@Xeli Chapter 30 for another part of chapter gushing over food.

The food does make a bit more sense in this chapter, given how chapter 30's food session was more "random" than in this chapter. Here, at least the pages are used in context to Mariana and Mira's relationship.

Now with all this said, the food is using pages on filler that could otherwise cover more relevant happenings other than just... the food. Which is on display/ being gushed over.

Moreso to a JP audience for this chapter. Sure, they are the target audience, but the audience should already know about their own stuff right? A page or two, possibly even 3 (1-2 for a big spread of dishes, 1-2 for a brief explanation) is about how much I feel would be needed to drive home the point. Then the dynamics between the characters can be focused on again as they enjoy the food, which helps create a setting for character interaction. This does happen in this chapter for the most part, albeit still dragged out across quite a few pages.

This would then make chapter 30's food gushing seem a bit more reasonable too I guess (in explaining good food), but that was just Mira being... Mira. Both instances show Mira does like quality food though.

Regardless of context, while I personally don't mind the food focus, I can see how it can be an annoyance. Especially toward an audience that should know something about it already. Maybe even already appreciates the displayed food to boot.

Listening to someone preaching about something you don't agree with will always only make things worse. Be it food or manga... logical or not.

I wonder how Mariana knows about japanese cooking, she was a NPC so MC didn't have a conversation about that with her

Honestly I only recall there only being this chapter that does the food. It was used for nostalgia for the mc and since the game was presumably designed in Japan, there can be Japanese influence in the game design. and yes the target audience is people from Japan as this is where they get most of their sales from, so using Japanese cuisine in which the audience recognizes does make sense, so I honestly don't get wtf you guys are going on about. This isn't even a fking food focused manga

>calls personal attacks immature, proceeds to personally attack immediately afterwards
This is why me calling you stupid is more an objective statement than an insult. You're not even trying anymore, to the point that trying to refute your nonsensical points is actually hurting my brain, so I won't either. Just google up some actual good LNs and look up how logic works while you're at it. You're killing me man.

he did not explained why this ore is needed and why it became useless on a short period of time, almost no progress on this

hmm, skipped to this chapter, seems like I might enjoy this series (though I did skim a lot of the walls of text)

As someone who cooks I'm always a little disappointed that Japanese food gets replicated on a 1 for 1 basis. I'd like to see the principles of Japanese food applied to fantasy ingredients.

But of course that would require more research, so it doesn't happen. Mangaka are too busy to do that for a non-food centered series

"Your argument is still stupid."
Personal attacks are a sign of mental immaturity. There's nothing you can do if you're under 12, but you can still learn social skills from people who can teach you that. Please do so before graduating school.

"You're telling me that I don't get to dislike things that haven't specifically been created for me, "
I'm not telling you that you don't get to dislike anything. You said and I quote "Doesn't mean every other manga out there has to devote five pages per chapter to masturbatory declarations of their nation's culinary superiority. Some of us couldn't give a wet shit about it even if it were true."
And I replied, "Then don't read Japanese manga. They didn't draw this for you."

Your wet shit is invalid. Because you are not shoved this down your throat. You chose to read it. You can choose to move away from it. This is not necessary school literature reading. You chose this.

"and you're implying that Japanese people in general buy into this type of cheap pandering which is honestly pretty insulting to the Japanese."
As I said, it's for Japanese. It is a Japanese manga, made in Japan, by a Japanese person, for the Japanese. So why can't they praise Japanese cooking? Should they cook fillet mignon and praise that instead?

"You're also implying that LNs can't be good fiction in the classical sense,"
It can be good fiction, and some LNs are indeed good. But LNs were not designed to be literary masterpieces. Everyone knows this, you're the only one in denial. It's even acknowledged by the author of Ascendance of A Bookworm that LNs are shallow and not meant as literary read.

"or that Americans tend to approve of the Kardashians, or that foreign works can't be universally appealing, all of which is just beyond ignorant."
Hey, you're the one who brought up Paris Hilton. I'm just adding another equally dumb show to prove that it's not made for me, and therefore, I chose NOT to watch them. Also, take care of the mental immaturity there. It can be fixed, given time.
