Huh, I see where you're coming from. I never gave it too much thought. I always translate it as is and move on. If the majority of the readers are comfortable with it, then I would totally agree. I'll keep that in mind. Maybe I'll make the transition if the readers are fine with it.

Again, this is simply my opinion on the matter, and I understand if you disagree, but I disagree with what you said. You are correct that "[n]ot all the readers know how names work in Asian cultures" (although I also disagree with you calling it "Asian" since you're likely referring specifically to East Asia, and the practice of putting family names first occurs in European cultures such as in Austria or even ). You can ignore the parentheses that I just wrote; it's a digression.

My point is that sometimes you do expect readers to have certain knowledge. If you see a translator leave a line as "baka" instead of translating it as moron/idiot/stupid/etc., then in this day and age and in this setting (a site called Mangadex), it would be acceptable for the translator to expect that the reader knows what "baka" means and not have to add a note. I, personally, think that the order of names in a Chinese setting can be expected of a reader of this series.

That's just my personal feelings, though. I know that I'm speaking to someone who obviously translates (and I do think you translate quite well, for what it's worth). Feel free to correct me if you think that I'm wrong. I would appreciate hearing the perspective of a translator such as yourself.

Just name does sound better. I'll change it to that.

You can't make "last name" relative to the culture though. Not all the readers know how names work in Asian cultures. Surname or family name would probably work better.

Thank you for the translation work.

I know that it's very common, and I'm not holding this against the translator here, but it always annoys me when it's translated as "last name". It's the first name. It's just that family names come first in Chinese cultures. It would be easier to say "What is the name of the family that got annihilated?" considering that's both shorter and more accurate. I don't know. It's just bothersome to see it called "last name" when it's literally not.
