Since the legend says that if you actually see one (This Man), he will come and kill you, it makes claims about Hakaru even more stupid.
Maybe it's kind of a reference that audience of some popular youtubers can be that stupid and believe all sorts of baseless statements.

One glaring problem with Kodama's claims is that he assumes that 'This Man' takes hostages, which he doesn't and there's no reason to do so.
For some reason no character found that to be odd.
