Well, incompetent parents are fine too. In manga/manuha like this, the parents usually end up being some sort of unknown super powerful characters that hide everything from their children.

He should tell his parent's not to mess with his dog. I understand in Asia parents are stronger authority figures for their children than often in the West these days, but there are certain limits, like the children's private possessions. The "dog" is obviously so gorgeous, so who on Earth made these parents such super experts in raising a dog better? I'm starting to understand why the dude doesn't visit home much. I wouldn't either, in his shoes.
